CORBIN — Cody Philpots Corbin Redhounds ended last season with a 26-10 record while losing only 3 seniors. “Cameron and Jacob were everything that a coach would ask for as seniors, great players, great leaders, and great young men so you don’t look to replace those guys. However, we have 4 seniors this year who fit that same bill. I’m really excited about seeing how Jeremiah, Bradric, Walker, and Mikey flourish in that role. They’ve all seen a lot of success already in their tenures and they’ve continued to work hard and are excited for their senior season.” said Coach Philpot.
The Redhounds also took the 50th District Tournament, over Whitley County 7-2, where Bradric Helton finished the night with 15 strikeouts. But fell to Whitley County 1-7 in the 13th Region Championship. When I asked coach Philpot about his team goals this year he said, “As far as a team, we’re always striving to go as far into the postseason as we can and win some championships. The ride while striving for those championships are some of the things that we’ll cherish forever but capping it off with a win is always the goal.”
The Redhounds didn’t lose any key arms, other than Senior Cameron Combs who only had a few outings for his team. When I asked Coach Philpot what he thought about his returning pitching staff he said, “Our pitching staff was strong last year and Cameron had a few big outings but he was behind the plate most of the time so we don’t feel like we really lost any of our arms. If anything we feel really good about the progress all of those guys have made plus a few more that may surprise some people that will add to the depth in that area for us.”
Coach Philpot also added “It’s hard to name just 5, I have a lot of guys that I feel like will make a huge impact this season. We return 7 everyday starters from last year with 3 or 4 more that pitched big innings for us.” after being asked what players the Redhound’s competition should be watching out for.
The Rehounds take the field on March 12th at George Rogers Clark (GRC) game time is set for 6:00 P.M. The Hounds won’t return to their new turf diamond until they take on Tates Creek, game time for that one is set for noon on March 16th.
