McWhorter’s Jaguars possess a young but talented roster

LONDON — Darren McWhorter’s North Laurel Jaguars are looking to build on last season’s 17-17 record with hopes of bringing home the 49th District and 13th Region championships.
North Laurel is a young and promising squad comprising two seniors, seven sophomores, six freshmen, and one seventh grader.
The leadership of the seniors Andrew Cupp and J. Douglas Gilliam will play a crucial role in guiding the team and setting the tone both on and off the field, according to McWhorter.
“Their experience and knowledge of the game will be invaluable in mentoring the younger players and ensuring that the team remains focused and motivated throughout the season,” he said. “Their leadership will be pivotal in shaping the team’s identity and creating a supportive and cohesive environment for all players.
“The absence of juniors on the team brings a unique dynamic, as it places the responsibility on the underclassmen to step into significant roles,” he added. “This will present an opportunity for the sophomores, freshmen, and seventh grader to take on leadership positions and contribute to the team’s success. Their development and growth throughout the season will be instrumental in our success.”

North Laurel’s seven sophomores (Bradyn Evans, Colton Gilbert, Cam Hinkle, Eli Holt, Carter Kelley, Cooper Robinson and Cameron Smith) represent the core of the team, according to McWhorter, and their collective experience will be essential in anchoring both the offensive and defensive aspects of the game.
“Their familiarity with our team’s dynamics and playing style positions them as key contributors who can lead by example and inspire our younger players,” McWhorter said. “Their ability to bring consistency and stability to the team will be a factor in achieving positive results on the field.”
McWhorter will also rely on six freshmen — Lucas Cupp, Cooper Elza, Noah Hamm, Tanner Houchens, Dylan Hurley, Zac Johnston, Jude McWhorter and Austin Napier to contribute along with seventh grader Cooper Parman.
“They add an exciting demension to the team,” McWhorter said. Every game and practice presents a chance for us to improve, learn, and come together. It’s going to be an exciting season.”
