LONDON — Expectations are high for North Laurel’s boys’ tennis with all of its top players returning off last season’s 16-4 squad.
Coach Bob Smith is excited to see what his team can accomplish this spring.
“The boys are coming off a good season as well with a 16-4 record,” he said. “We return all of our top players. Seniors Jasper Jones and Derek Vaughn are back after another state trip in doubles. Sophomore Zaid Salim and junior Jackson Gilbert along with doubles team of senior Colton Cunagin and junior Finn McArdle give us a solid top of the lineup.
“Similar to the girls, a lot of match experience with our top boys,” he added. “Others pushing for playing time will include juniors Joe Clay Durham, Ethan Carter, sophomores Austin Van, Tucker Hamilton, Cooper McCowan, Raymond Wang, freshman Caleb McCreary, and eighth graders Trenton Bray and Qasim Sroya.”
Smith said he also has a number of first-year players that could help and provide depth for the Jaguars.
“Our first year players on the boys side who could also provide us with help include senior Joe Gilbert, sophomore Carson Elza, freshman Gavin Martin, eighth grader Aidyn Kennedy, and seventh grader Aiden Munn,” he said. “We feel we have a good chance again of being one of the top two or three teams in the region this season and hope for another strong campaign.”
