WILLIAMSBURG — Angela Singleton’s Whitley County Lady Colonels improved to 2-0 thanks to an easy 12-3 win over Barbourville on Tuesday.
The Lady Colonels jumped out on top with a 5-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed.
The Lady Tigers answered with three runs in the top of the second inning before Whitley County put the game away with seven unanswered runs.
“It was a slow start again against a much-improved Barbourville team,” Whitley County coach Angela Singleton said. “We hit the ball, but can definitely do better with line drives and ground balls. We have some more work to do but it is still very early in the season and I believe these girls will make the adjustments needed to go for the district title and make a run in the post season.”
Kara Canada and Caylee Singleton teamed up in the pitchers circle and limited Barbourville two hits.
Canada tossed 3 1/3 of an inning while allowing two earned runs and finishing with one strikeout. Singleton pitched 3 2/3 of hitless and scoreless ball while fanning six batters.
Whitley County finished with 16 hits in the win as Cambree Price went 3-for-3 with two runs scored while Hallie Huddleston was 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Amber Brown had two hits, an RBI, and two runs scored while Jaydon Barton finished with two hits, three RBI and one run scored.
