LEXINGTON — Owsley County looked as if it were going to cruise to an easy win during first round action of Girls’ Sweet 16, but Bowling Green had other things in mind.
The Lady Owls led 16-4 after the first quarter before the Lady Purples began to slowly chip away at their deficit while eventually pulling out a 46-44 win.
Bowling Green had three players score 12 points apiece (Chloe Potter, Katy Smiley, and Natajia Alexander) while out rebounding Owsley County, 36-30.
The Lady Owls led 22-13 at halftime and 29-26 entering the fourth quarter before getting outscored, 20-15, in the final extra that minutes.
Neither team shot the ball well with the Lady Purples hitting 14-of-45 shot attempts while Owsley County finished 14-of-47.
Addison Terry and Carly Smith led Owsley County with 14 points apiece while Aaliyah Lynch finished with 11 points.
