MCKEE — Angela Singleton’s Lady Colonels, boasting a flawless 3-0 record this season, journeyed to Jackson County to face off against Gary Tillery’s Lady Generals. Despite a valiant effort from the Lady Generals, the Lady Colonels emerged victorious with a 14-7 triumph. “I’m very proud of the way the girls played last night. They were all about the team and we had girls come in and do their job at the plate, in the circle and on the bases. This team is all about the next girl and winning as a team. They have really taken the “whatever it takes mindset” and are willing to do whatever it is in that moment. “ Coach Angela Singleton remarked on her team’s performance. “The offense was very fun to watch last night. The first couple innings the girls were hitting but they were shots right to people. All of the girls kept doing what they needed to at the plate and about the third inning they started finding gaps.” added coach Singleton.
Senior Kara Canada took the mound for the Lady Colonels, pitching three innings and conceding six hits, and four runs, with a 7.00 ERA, and two strikeouts. Eighth-grader Caylee Singleton also pitched, allowing five hits and three runs in four innings with a 3.50 ERA. Coach Singleton commented, “We had some struggles, but both pitchers were able to overcome and rely on their teammates with the defense and then of course our offense showed up big last night.”
Jackson County’s Candice Williams started as pitcher, yielding sixteen hits, fourteen runs, three walks, four strikeouts, and a 14.0 ERA.
Offensively, the Lady Colonels were led by Cambree Price, who orchestrated two doubles, a stolen base, and a home run. Amber Brown, Morgan Huddleston, and Caylee Singleton also contributed with doubles, while Hallie Huddleston, Cambree Price, Morgan Huddleston, Jadynn Johnson, and Payton Hurst showcased speed on the bases with stolen bases. “We had a couple base running errors, and the girls did well at the plate with making adjustments,” Coach Angela Singleton noted.
Kylie Moore led Jackson County’s offense, tallying four hits, two doubles, an RBI, and a home run.
Next up, the Lady Colonels hit the road to face Southwestern on March 18th at 6:00 PM. “Southwestern always has a strong team, and I’m excited to see these girls go out there and keep doing what they have been doing. We always expect Southwestern to be speedy, with both solid pitching and hitting,” said Coach Singleton.
