Missed opportunities turned out to be Whitley County’s Achille’s heel during the Lady Colonels’ 4-3 loss to Casey County on Tuesday.
Kelly Sawyers’ squad fought back from a 3-1 deficit to tie the game at three apiece but failed to come through on two penalty kicks that played a big part in the Lady Colonels’ setback.
Autumn Sawyers led the way for Whitley County (3-3) with two goals while Madison Earls scored one goal.
“It was an intense and physical game,” Sawyers said. “I felt it was a great match up. We were down 3-1 at half. I loved how the girls didn’t give up and worked together to bring it back and tie it up 3-3. Ultimately, it came down to us missing two penalty kicks in the second half which cost us.”
Whitley County will be back in action Thursday at home against Corbin.
