WILLIAMSBURG — Angela Singleton’s Whitley County Lady Colonels are off to their first 4-0 start since 2015 after defeating Harlan County on Friday, 8-1.
The Lady Colonels received another stellar pitching effort from eighth grader Caylee Singleton, who tossed a complete game while allowing only one earned run and four hits and 11 strikeouts.
Whitley County (4-0) also done damage at the plate, connecting with 14 hits and five extra base hits, which included three triples.
“I am so proud of these girls,” Whitley County coach Angela Singleton said. “We tried a few new things tonight and they did amazing. The girls did a great job hitting tonight and scoring early in the game. Everyone did their job tonight and it was amazing to watch.”
The Lady Colonels took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and gave themselves some breathing room with four runs in the third inning.
Whitley County added a run in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth inning before the Lady Black Bears scored their lone run in the top of the seventh inning.
Jadynn Johnson turned in a 3-for-4 effort at the plate while driving in a run and scoring twice. Morgan Huddleston was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Adalee Johnson was perfect at the plate with a 3-for-3 effort while driving in two runs. Hallie Huddleston had two hits, an RBI and a run scored.
