WILLIAMSBURG — On Friday, Jeremy Shope’s Whitley County Colonels faced off against Madison Southern, securing a decisive 10-5 victory.
Bryce Anderson went three for four at bat, leading the Whitley County Colonels to a 10-5 victory over Madison Southern. Anderson hit a triple in the second inning and singled in both the first and sixth innings.
The Colonels took an early lead in the first inning when Hunter Wilson’s single brought in two runs. They further extended their lead in the second with triples from EJ Allen and Bryce Anderson, along with a single from RJ Osborne.
7th Grader Kip Allen started on the mound for the Colonels. He pitched five innings, allowing only one hit and no runs while striking out six and walking one, earning the win for Whitley County Colonels. Jason Nunley, Eli Powers, and Jerrod Croley also took the mound for the Colonels. “Proud of Kip and pitched really well tonight is his first varsity outing for the Colonels. He had command of all 3 of his pitches. His special how he carries himself on the mound for such a young player,” said Coach Shope.
The Whitley County Colonels accumulated an impressive 15 hits.“We had several guys with multiple hits. Going to be a good offensive night when you get that. RJ, Tyler, Bryce, Hunter, and Dee all had multiple hits. Fun to see that happen.” Said Coach Shope. Wilson emerged as a standout performer in the lineup, driving in three runs to lead the team. He went 2-for-4 at the plate. Additionally, Osborne, Anderson, and Dee Parker all had notable performances, each collecting three hits for the Colonels. Tyler Rose also made a solid contribution with two hits in four at-bats. Anderson showcased his speed by stealing two bases, contributing to the team’s overall tally of five stolen bases in the game. Shope also added, “I love this team. It’s going to be fun watching them grow. We are going to have to bring it day in and day out to reach our potential”
The Colonels are back in action on Saturday, March 16th at at home during a triangle hosting Southwestern and Harlan County, game times are 11:00 AM, vs Southwestern, and at 4:00 PM vs Harlan County,
