Lady Colonels get back to winning ways with 23-12 win over Knox Central 

WILLIAMSBURG — Thirty-six hits and 35 runs later, a winner came out of the Knox Central vs. Whitley County Fastpitch slugfest on Tuesday.

Angela Singleton’s Lady Colonels got back to their winning ways and improved to 5-1 during the process by outlasting the Lady Panthers with a 23-12 win.

Whitley County never trailed in the game, but the Lady Colonels could never out Knox Central away either.

Singleton’s squad led 6-0 and 6-4 before adding three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 9-4 edge.

Whitley County exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to push its lead to 17-4, but the Lady Panthers responded with eight runs of their own in the top of the fifth to cut their deficit to 17-12.

The Lady Colonels followed with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, pushing their lead to 21-12 before adding two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.

“Wasn’t the prettiest, but these girls found a way,” Singleton said. “All of the pitching staff worked together tonight. The defense had some bumps in the road but were able to over come. We exposed some weaknesses tonight that we are going to be sure to work on moving forward. I’m proud of them for continuing to fight and not laying down.”

Hallie Huddleston entered the game with a .652 batting average and continued to remain red-hot at the plate, finishing 5-for-6 with five RBI and four runs scored. Adalee Johnson was 4-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored while Jayden Johnson turned in a 3-for-3 effort with an RBI and four runs scored. Madilyn Rains was 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Cambree Price had two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Amber Brown also finished with two hits and scored three times. Morgan Huddleston had two hits, five RBI and three runs scored while Jayden Barton finished with a hit, two RBI and one run scored. Kara Canada had a hit and Caylee Singleton finished with a hit and two RBI.
