Finley’s two-run double caps off North Laurel’s 13-12 win

MOUNT VERNON — Bella Finley’s two-run double in the top of the seventh inning capped off North Laurel’s 13-12 comeback from behind victory against Rockcastle County on Tuesday.

The Lady Jaguars (1-1) were staring at a 13-10 deficit entering the inning when Saige McClure’s home run rallied the troops as North Laurel’s Braylee Fawbush reached base with a hit while Ellie Adams followed by reaching base due to an error, setting up Finley’s eventual game-winning hit.

Pitcher Tessa Monhollen took care of business in the bottom of the seventh, retiring three of the four batters she faced, allowing North Laurel to secure the win.

Monhollen picked up the victory in the pitcher’s circle after tossing the final four inning, allowing two hits and no earned runs. She also struck out two batters. Emma Carl started the game and pitched three innings, allowing eight hits and four earned runs. 

North Laurel scored two runs in the top of the first before falling behind 5-2 at the end of the first inning. The Lady Jaguars scored six runs in the top of the second to reclaim an 8-5 lead, but the Lady Rockets scored twice to cut their deficit to 8-7 entering the third inning.

Rockcastle County added three more runs in the bottom of the third to take a 10-8 edge while adding another run in the bottom of the fourth to push its lead to 11-8. 

North Laurel responded with two runs in the top of the fifth, cutting its deficit to 11-10 before the Lady Rockets added a run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 12-10 lead, setting up the Lady Jaguars’ rally in the top of the seventh.

Morgan Edwards and McClure each had home runs in the win. 

Fawbush led North Laurel at the plate with a 4-for-4 effort. She drove in a run and scored three times while Finley had three hits and four RBI. Katie Sams delivered two hits, one RBI and two runs scored while McClure finished with two hits, three RBI and three runs scored. Adams had two hits and a run scored while Edwards finished with a hit, three RBI and one run scored. Katie Keen was 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Reeselyn Garland had a hit and scored once.
