LONDON — After starting the season with three wins, Trey Smith’s South Laurel Cardinals have dropped two straight after falling to Madison Central, 9-2, on Thursday.
Smith isn’t too concerned though this early in the season. He admitted the beginning of the season is always a roller coaster, but also pointed out his team has work to do.
“We just need to clean some things up,” he said. “Especially the things we are normally good at. We just need to clean things up moving forward.”
South Laurel (3-2) spotted the Indians a 5-0 lead in the first inning before falling behind 6-0 after two innings.
The Cardinals hung with Madison Central the remainder of the game, but couldn’t pull off the come from behind win.
“The big thing tonight is you can’t spot a good team like Madison Central five runs,” Smith said. “We were able to play with them after the first inning. We have just got to have timely hits and make the routine plays. We do those things, we are a dangerous team.”
Waylon Hensley had a hit and an RBI in the loss while Vincent Sizemore, Cole Harville, Will Alsip, Keaton Creech and Noah Smith each had a hit apiece.
