MOUNT VERNON — North Laurel pounded out 14 hits but managed only two runs, but they were more than enough for the Jaguars on Thursday.
Darren McWhorter’s squad received stellar pitching efforts from Dylan Hurley and seventh grader Cooper Parman, who combined to limit Rockcastle County to only three hits during North Laurel’s 2-1 win.
Hurley picked up the win, tossing four innings while allowing only two hits and one earned run. He finished with six strikeouts. Parman impressed during his first varsity appearance on the mound, pitching three scoreless innings while allowing only one hit and earning the save. He also had five strikeouts.
“We played well tonight in all facets of the game,” McWhorter said. “Defensively, offensively and pitching, we did well.
“Dylan Hurley and Cooper Parman threw lights out tonight and we hit the ball well, just didn’t score runs or couldn’t get hit with runners in scoring position,” he added. “Great win for the Jags tonight.”
Parkan also done damage at the plate, leading the way with a 4-for-4 effort while scoring once. Carter Kelley had three hits, and drove in a run while Cooper Elza finished with two hits.
Five Jaguars players finished with a hit apiece.
