CORBIN — Corbin hosted Somerset during Friday’s Eli Hill Invitational as the Redhounds came up short, losing 4-3 to the Briar Jumpers.
Even though his team suffered its first loss of the season, Corbin coach Cody Philpot said Friday’s game was more than just about baseball.
“We played a good team and came up a little short,” he said. “Well played both ways. Our bats are close, we just have to get in a rhythm and start playing on a consistent basis.
“Excited to see the huge crowd to honor Eli Hill,” Philpot added. “Tonight was about more than baseball, it was about a community that loves one another.”
Somerset built a 4-0 lead before Corbin answered with two runs in the bottom of the third. The Redhounds added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning but couldn’t push across any more runs.
Cam Estep finished with two hits, an RBI and a run scored while Bradric Helton finished with two hits and an RBI. Cooper McCauley had a hit and scored once. Kade Elam finished with an RBI while Noah Cima scored once.
