WILLIAMSBURG — Freshman Makenzie Rice turned in a 3-for-4 effort at the plate while Kyli Monhollen struck out nine batters to lead Williamsburg to its first win, a 4-3 victory over Hart County.
Hart County scored a run in the top of the first inning while the Lady Yellow Jackets (1-5) answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning while scoring a run apiece in the second and third innings to take a 4-1 lead.
The Lady Raiders scored two runs in the sixth inning but couldn’t get any closer as Monhollen slammed the door shut in the pitcher’s circle.
Monhollen tossed seven innings, allowing eight hits and two earned runs.
Allie Wilson and Angela Stephens drove in a run apiece in the win.
