LONDON — Trey Smith’s South Laurel Cardinals remain red-hot, winning their season-best fourth game in a row with an 8-5 victory over Wayne County.
The Cardinals (7-2) received an impressive effort at the plate by Hunter Bundy while Keaton Smith collected the win on the mound.
Bundy turned in a perfect 2-for-2 effort while driving in three runs, and scoring twice.
Smith tossed 3 2/3 of an inning while surrendering only two hits and striking out three batters.
South Laurel built a 4-0 lead after two innings of play before Wayne County scored two runs in the top of the third to make the score, 4-2.
The Cardinals added three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 7-2 edge before Wayne County added two runs of its own in the top of the sixth to cut its deficit to 7-4.
South Laurel added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win.
Vincent Sizemore finished the game with a hit and two RBI while Austin Byrd drove in a run and collected a hit and scored once. Noah Smith also drove in a run and scored once.
Tyler Curry came in relief of Smith, lasting 2 1/3 of an inning while allowing three hits and two runs and finishing with four strikeouts. Austin Byrd tossed one inning, allowing two hits and one earned run.
