MANCHESTER — The odds were stacked against Cody Philpot’s Corbin Redhounds during Wednesday’s Class 2A, Section 7 title game.
The Redhounds (5-2) were not only going on the road to play Clay County but also faced the task of finding a way of handing the Tigers (7-1) their first loss
Corbin found a way as the duo of Bradric Helton and Kade Elam limited Clay County only three hits during the Redhounds’ 6-2 win.
Helton picked up the win, going 3 2/3 of an inning allowing only one run and one hit. Elam got the save in 3 1/3 innings of work, giving up two hits and no runs while finishing with five strikeouts.
“Great team win for us, we’ve had a few injuries and the people that have been asked to fill in have done well,” Philpot said. “Bradric and Kade both threw well, and we found a way to get enough runs across thanks to a few big hits. We’re excited to get the chance to go compete in Owensboro.”
The Redhounds outhit Clay County (7-1), 11-3.
Walker Landrum had two hits, two RBI, and one run scored while Cam Estep finished with two hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Lucas Travis recorded two hits in the win while Mikey Neal connected with a run-scoring hit. Helton, Ethan Abner, Clay Botner and Cooper McCauley finished with a hit apiece. McCauley also scored twice while Botner and Elam scored one run apiece.
Talan Marcum finished with a hit and a run scored for the Tigers while Ethan Jackson had a hit and scored once. Aiden Wagers finished with a hit while Brandin Crawford drove in a run.
