Lady Cardinals’ win streak snapped at four games

LONDON — For five innings, South Laurel and Pulaski County were locked in a scoreless tie as pitchers Kenzie Williams and Bella Ellis hooked up in a pitcher’s duel.

The Lady Maroons scored a run in the top of the sixth to claim a 1-0 lead before scoring two more runs in the top of the seventh while eventually securing a 3-1 win.

The loss dropped the Lady Cardinals to 6-3 while snapping their four-game win streak during the process.

Williams tossed seven innings while allowing seven hits and one earned run. She struck out four batters.

Pulaski County’s Ellis allowed seven hits and one earned run while striking out three batters.

“We continued to fight and were able to get the winning run to the plate in the seventh but just fell short,” South Laurel coach Carly Mink said. “We made a few mistakes tonight that we will work on cleaning up. But I like that we gave ourselves a chance at the end. We’re not satisfied with staying where we are right now, so we will continue to work to get better every day.”

Addison Baker and Bailey Frazier led South Laurel with two hits apiece while Baker also drove in a run. Williamsburg, Skye Lawson, and Ryleigh Bretz finished with a hit apiece.
