Emma Carl homers, picks up win during North Laurel’s 14-5 rout of Lincoln County

STANFORD — North Laurel coach Chris Edwards was hoping to see his team get back to its winning ways before heading to Florida next week.

He got just that as the Lady Jaguars improved to 4-3, snapping a two-game losing skid thanks to a 14-5 win over Lincoln County on Thursday.

Led by Bella Sizemore’s 3-for-4 effort at the plate, North Laurel pounded out 15 hits.

Sizemore drove in a run and scored once while Emma Carl did damage in the pitcher’s circle and swinging the bat.

Carl got the win, last 4 2/3 of an inning while allowing five hits and one earned run and finishing with seven strikeouts. She also connected with a home run while finishing with two RBI, and a run scored. Tessa Monhollen came in relief, going 2 1/3 of an inning while allowing three hits, two earned and striking out three batters.

“Started out well tonight,” Corbin coach Chris Edwards said. “A couple of runs in the first and then multiple runs in the fourth through seventh. We had several girls with multiple hits tonight. Good to get the bats going and get some hits in bunches.

“We also got some of the younger girls in the game to get some swings late,” he added. “Pitching wise, another good night for Emma and Tessa. They are starting to compliment each other well but maybe more importantly, only one walk. They pitched to their defense tonight.”

Ellie Adams added two hits and three RBI while Saige McClure finished with three hits, an RBI, and scored three times. Braylee Fawbush finished with two hits and two RBI Aubrey McCowan finished with a hit, an RBI, and two runs scored. Morgan Edwards scored twice, Piper Davenport had a hit and Bella Finley drove in a run while finishing with a hit and scoring twice.

“We do have some things to work on and we will start working of those things when we get to Florida for spring break,” Edwards said. “A tough schedule is waiting on us down there. Gonna be a good test but that is the point of the trip. Go Jags.”
