WILLIAMSBURG — “Good win for us today,” remarked head coach Jeremy Shope. “Christian had a good start for us on the mound. Our pitching filled up the zone without any walks today. The bottom of our order was able to start some rallies and the middle of the order had some big hits. Good to see some of our top be able to produce today.”
Bryce Anderson delivered five RBIs on three hits to propel the Whitley County Colonels to a commanding 13-3 victory over the Pulaski County Maroons last Saturday. Anderson’s contributions included a crucial double in the sixth inning that drove in three runs, as well as a single in the third inning that brought in two more.
Whitley County got their first runs on the scoreboard during the second inning courtesy of EJ Allen’s sacrifice fly, scoring one, and Matthew Wright’s double, bringing in two. The team then exploded for six runs in the third inning. Jason Nunley walked home one run, Spencer Bargo’s single added another, Wright drew another walk for a run, Anderson’s single scored two, and Hunter Wilson’s single added one more.
Christian Wilson secured the win for Whitley County with a solid performance on the mound, allowing just four hits and three runs over three innings, while striking out three without issuing a walk. Keegan Measel took the loss for Pulaski County, giving up four runs on three hits over two and two-thirds innings, with one strikeout and two walks.
Carter Ross started the game for Pulaski County, pitching two innings and allowing three hits and three runs, while striking out four and walking three. Tyler Rose and Trey Walton came in relief for Whitley County, effectively shutting down Pulaski County’s offense.
Offensively, Whitley County amassed nine hits, with Wilson contributing two hits in three at-bats. The team also displayed patience at the plate, drawing 11 walks throughout the game, with RJ Osborne, Wilson, and Allen leading with two walks each. Dee Parker added two stolen bases. Defensively, Whitley County didn’t commit a single error, with Bargo having the most opportunities in the field, handling eight chances.
Pulaski County also totaled nine hits, with Jacob Todd, Bryce Cowell, and Camryn Campbell each collecting two. Cowell and Wessen Falin drove in one run each. Like their opponents, Pulaski County’s defense was solid, committing no errors, with Cowell making the most plays with eight.
