MYRTLE BEACH, SC — South Laurel’s season-best seven-game win streak was snapped on Monday, losing, 9-5, to South Carolina’s Wilson Hall High School.
The Cardinals (10-3) fell behind 5-0 in the first inning and never recovered.
South Laurel cut its deficit to 5-2 in the top of the third inning before Wilson Hall responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to claim a 7-2 edge. Wilson Hall added two more runs in the fourth inning to put the game out of reach.
Noah Smith and Keaton Creech finished with a hit and RBI apiece while Jack Vaughn and Keaton Smith delivered a hit apiece. Smith also scored a run. Hunter Bundy and Cole Harville drove in a run apiece while Bundy also scored a run along with Waylon Hensley and Austin Byrd.
Hensley took the loss on the mound, lasting an inning while allowing five hits and one earned run. He struck out two batters. Smith pitched the final five innings, giving up five hits and one earned run while striking out three batters.
