MYRTLE BEACH, SC — Darren McWhorter’s North Laurel Jaguars snapped their three-game losing skid by recording a 6-5 come from behind win over Russell on Tuesday.
The Jaguars (3-5) trailed 5-2 entering the fourth inning and cut their deficit to two runs by pushing across a run and took the lead for good with a three-run sixth inning.
Carter Kelley, who possesses one of the best batting averages in the state, continued his red-hot hitting, finishing 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Cameron Smith went 2-for-2 with an RBI, and a run scored while J. Douglas Gilliam had a hit and an RBI. Dylan Hurley scored twice while collecting a hit. Cooper Parman also had a hit in the win.
Hurley picked up the win on the mound, tossing 6 1/3 of an inning while allowing five hits and two earned runs. He struck out five batters. Andrew Cupp recorded the final two outs for North Laurel.
