Cardinals finish Cal Ripken Experience with 1-3 mark

MYRTLE BEACH, SC — South Laurel finished its final game of the Cal Ripken Experience event, dropping a 7-3 decision to New York’s Victor High School on Wednesday.

The game was close throughout with Victor using a three-run seventh inning to put the game out of reach.

The loss, South Laurel’s third in a row, dropped the Cardinals to 10-5. Trey Smith’s squad turned in a 1-3 mark during their spring break trip.

Will Alsip took the mound and tossed a complete game while giving up 12 hits and three earned runs. He finished with seven Ks.

South Laurel committed two errors in the loss that led to four unearned runs.

Waylon Hensley turned out to be the lone Cardinal player to drive in a run while also finishing with a hit. Hunter Bundy had a hit and scored twice while Austin Byrd finished with a hit and scored once. Keaton Creech and Noah Smith also had hits in the loss.
