North Laurel’s Carter Kelley raises batting average to .692 after three-hit effort against New Jersey’s Highland Regional High School

MYRTLE BEACH, SC — North Laurel’s Carter Kelley entered Wednesday’s game as one of the top hitters in the state, and he continued his torrid pace at the plate, delivering a 3-for-4 effort while raising his batting average to a red-hot .692 during the Jaguars’ 18-13 loss to New Jersey’s Highland Regional High School.

North Laurel fell behind 7-0 in the first inning but never quit fighting.

The Jaguars trailed 15-3 entering the bottom of the fourth inning but scored two runs in both the fourth and fifth inning to cut their deficit to 15-7.

Darren McWhorter’s squad cut Highland Regional’s lead to 16-9 entering the seventh inning and scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning but couldn’t complete its comeback attempt.

Cameron Smith had two hits and three RBI while Andrew Cupp collected two hits and scored three times. Cam Hinkle had three hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Eli Holt finished with two hits, two RBI and one run scored while Cooper Parman delivered two hits, which included a triple, two RBI, and two runs scored. Cooper Elza finished with two hits, two RBI, and one run scored while J. Douglas Gilliam collected a hit, an RBI, and a run scored.
