PIGEON FORGE, (TN) — The Whitley County Colonels found themselves unable to keep pace with the dominant Archbishop Hoban squad, ultimately falling 11-1 in their Thursday matchup. Archbishop Hoban wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as Weigand’s single in the second inning brought in two runs, setting the tone for their offensive prowess. The gap widened in the bottom of the third inning when Akers’ triple extended Archbishop Hoban’s lead to 3-0.
However, it was in the fifth inning where Archbishop Hoban truly asserted their dominance, scoring five runs on four hits. Gerring’s single drove in one run, followed by Akers’ double which brought in two more. A pair of errors from Whitley County allowed two additional runs to cross the plate, further solidifying Archbishop Hoban’s commanding lead.
Pitcher Shultz delivered a standout performance for Archbishop Hoban, earning the win after surrendering just four hits and one unearned run over six innings while striking out an impressive 10 batters and walking two. On the other side, Kara Canada of the Whitley County Colonels faced a tough outing, enduring five and one-third innings and allowing nine runs (four earned) on 10 hits, striking out three and walking three.
Despite the tough loss, a few players from Whitley County managed to make their mark at the plate. Hallie Huddleston, Jayden Barton, Caylee Singleton, and Ciara Pittman each collected a hit, with Singleton driving in the lone run for the team. Archbishop Hoban, meanwhile, boasted an impressive offensive display, accumulating 12 hits throughout the game.
Akers emerged as a key player for Archbishop Hoban, leading the team with three RBIs and going 2-for-3 at the plate, showcasing her prowess as the cleanup hitter. Alongside Akers, Gerring, Seaglione, Shultz, and Peters each contributed with two hits apiece, highlighting the depth of Archbishop Hoban’s lineup.
