Pineville holds off late Williamsburg rally to advance in 13th Region All ‘A’ Classic Tournament

PINEVILLE — For six innings it looked as if Pineville was gonna cruise to an easy eight-run win over Williamsburg during first round action of the 13th Region All ‘A’ Classic.

But all of the sudden, the Lady Yellow Jackets began to rally and cut their deficit to one run in the top of the seventh with seven runs before falling, 8-7.

The Lady Mountain Lions (4-3) scored five runs in the second inning and two more runs in the third inning to take a 7-0 lead. They added another run in the fifth inning, pushing their advantage to 8-0.

Rachel Howard got the win for Pineville, tossing a complete game while allowing five hits and one earned run. She finished the game with 16 strikeouts.

Kyli Monhollen started for Williamsburg (2-11), lasting three innings, giving up eight hits and three earned runs while striking out three batters. Allie Wilson pitched the final three innings, allowing only one hit and no runs while striking out four batters.

Howard led Pineville with two hits and two RBI while Rayanna Maidon had two hits and two runs scored. Nadine Johnson finished with two hits while Isabella Adams delivered a hit, an RBI, and two runs scored. McKenzie Lawson also finished with a hit, and an RBI.

Wilson led the Lady Yellow Jackets with two hits and a run scored while Monhollen and Kendall Hamlin had a hit, an RBI, and a hit apiece. Brooklyn Taylor drove in a run and scored once while Kaitlyn Moses had a hit, drove in two runs and scored once.
