LONDON — Corbin’s Noah Cima continues to swing a red-hot bat.
Just a few days off of recording a cycle, Cima delivered a two-run triple with the game tied at three apiece in the top of the eighth inning that turned out to be the game-winning hit.
Cima turned in a 2-for-4 effort at the plate, finishing with three RBI as the Redhounds recorded a 5-3 win over 50th District rival South Laurel.
Corbin (12-2 overall, 1-0 vs. 50th District opponents) has now won 10 games in a row while the Cardinals fall to 10-6, and 0-1.
“We found a way to beat a good team tonight. Cole Harville did a great job keeping us off balance,” Corbin coach Cody Philpot said. “Cruz Cima and Kade Elam threw well for us. We handled some adversity and kept fighting back. It’s going to be another tough one tomorrow.”
The game was tied at one apiece after two innings and lasted that way until the Redhounds pushed runs across home plate in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 3-1 lead. South Laurel answered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game in extra innings before Noah Cima’s two-run triple sealed the win for Corbin.
Cruz Cima tossed 5 1/3 of an inning for the Redhounds, allowing four hits, and no runs while striking out eight batters. He has hasn’t given up an earned run in over 15 innings. Kade Elam came in relief and got the win, pitching 2 2/3 of an inning while allowing two hits and no earned runs. Elam struck out six batters.
Elam finished at the plate with a hit and an RBI while Cam Estep had a hit and two runs scored. Braderick Helton collected a hit and scored once.
Cole Harville started on the mound for South Laurel, lasting 7 2/3 of an inning while allowing four hits and four earned runs. He also struck out seven batters.
Vincent Sizemore led the Cardinals at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI while Noah Smith finished with two hits. Austin Byrd had a hit and an RBI in the loss.
