LONDON — The South Laurel Cardinals triumphed over the Barbourville Tigers with ease in a 12-6 victory on Thursday. Barbourville Tigers scored an early run in the first inning due to an error. However, the South Laurel Cardinals quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the inning. Vince Sizemore, Will Alsip, Noah Smith, and Tyler Curry all contributed with hits, resulting in a lead-changing sequence.
Austin Byrd extended the South Laurel Cardinals’ lead in the third inning with a powerful homer, driving in three runs. Despite a strong offensive effort from Barbourville Tigers in the fourth inning, scoring five runs, the South Laurel Cardinals maintained their lead.
Tyler Curry earned the win on the mound for the South Laurel Cardinals, while Luke Hillard took the loss for the Barbourville Tigers. Keaton Creech provided solid relief pitching for the South Laurel Cardinals, shutting out the Barbourville Tigers in his one and-one-third innings of work.
Offensively, the South Laurel Cardinals were dominant, amassing 13 hits. Austin Byrd led the charge with three RBIs, while several players including Sizemore, Reece Noble, Smith, Byrd, and Hunter Bundy contributed with two hits each. Bundy also showcased his speed with two stolen bases. Defensively, the South Laurel Cardinals executed one double play.
Barbourville Tigers put up a fight, with Sam Buchanan and Luke Hillard leading their offensive efforts. Despite their strong performance at the plate, the Barbourville Tigers ultimately fell short. They showed defensive prowess by committing zero errors throughout the game, with Caiden Miracle making the most plays with six.
