CORBIN — Corbin entered Monday’s highly anticipated 50th District matchup against rival Whitley County averaging eight runs a game.
But that didn’t seem to phase Colonels pitcher Brady Bargo, who silenced the Redhounds bats during Whitley County’s 8-1 win on Monday.
Bargo tossed a complete game, scattering four hits while allowing only one run during the Colonels’ season-best fifth win in a row. He also struck out two batters while issuing only one walk.
Tyler Rose did the damage at the plate, connecting with two hits while driving in four runs. EJ Allen had two hits, and scored once while Ronald Osborne finished with a hit, an RBI, and a run scored. Bryce Anderson had a hit, an RBI, and scored once while Matthew Wright finished with a hit, and scored three times.
“Great outing by Brady Bargo and our defense,” Whitley County coach Jeremy Shope said. “We had several good at bats and some bad at bats. We’ve got some areas that we have to continue getting better. It’s the little thing that win baseball games. Our guys are growing every day. There’s a lot of season left. We strive for perfection.”
The Colonels (13-7) fell behind 1-0 in the first inning before tying the game at one apiece in the second inning. Whitley County scored two runs in the fourth inning while adding two more runs in the fifth inning, pushing its lead to 5-1.
Shopes squad added a run in the sixth inning and two runs in the seventh inning to put the game out of reach.
Clay Botner, Jeremiah Gilbert, Lucas Tarvin, and Walker Landrum each had hits in the loss for the Redhounds. Mikey Neal drove in a run while
Kade Elam finished with a run scored.
Bradric Helton took the loss, lasting four innings while allowing three hits and four earned runs. He also struck out five batters. Elam pitched the final three innings, surrendering four hits, and two earned runs while striking out four batters.
