MANCHESTER — When North Laurel coach Chris Edwards receives solid defensive play and pitching, he knows his team will be hard to beat.
The Lady Jaguars (10-6 overall, 2-0 vs. 49th District foes) did just that during Monday’s 13-0 win over Clay County.
Emma Carl tossed a two-hitter while striking out five batters. Katie Sams and Bella Sizemore both went 4-for-4 at the plate while Bella Finley was 2-for-2 while delivering a home run.
Sams drove in a run and scored three times while Sizemore drove in two runs and scored twice. Finley finished with two RBI and scored twice, too. Ellie Adams finished with two hits and four RBI while Saige McClure had a hit, two RBI and two runs scored.
“A good team win tonight,” Edwards said. “Lots of good things. As always, pitching and defense are the keys. We did that again tonight. Emma with a two-hit shutout. No errors in the field either. Those are the keys for us.
“Offensively, multiple hits from Katie Sams, Bella Sizemore, Ellie Adams and Bella Finley,” he added. “Sixteen hits overall, and six extra base hits. We also ran the bases well tonight.
“This accomplishes our first goal of the season, which is the number one seed in the district,” he added. “That is always the goal every year. Happy to have reached that goal this year. Time to focus on the rest of this week by working hard and continuing to improve. Go Jags.”
