RICHMOND — After getting stunned by Middlesboro on Monday, South Laurel did what good teams do — put the loss behind them while getting back into the win column.
Led by another strong pitching effort from freshman Kenzie Williams, the Lady Cardinals fought back from a 1-0 deficit to knock off Madison Southern, 6-1.
Williams picked up her eighth win of the season while recording another complete game. She limited the Lady Eagles to only five hits while not allowing an earned run, and finishing with 12 strikeouts.
“We had to put last night behind us quick,” South Laurel coach Carly Mink said. “That’s not who we are and we responded well tonight.
“Kenzie was good again tonight and we made plays behind her,” she added. “Defense and pitching is a big part of being successful.”
Williams also had a big day at the plate with a 3-for-3 effort while driving in a run. Skye Lawson had two hits and an RBI while Bailey Frazier connected with a hit, and drove in two runs while scoring once. Morgan Jackson had a hit and scored twice while Addison Baker scored twice. Ryleigh Bretz had a hit and an RBI while Amara Horn finished with a hit.
“We focus on being productive all the way throughout the line up and putting together good at bats,” Mink said. “Good effort tonight.”
