WILLIAMSBURG — Hallie Huddleston’s game-winning triple in the bottom of the seventh inning capped off Whitley County’s 4-3 win over Jackson County.
The Lady Generals (13-5) came into the game red-hot, coming off a 13th Region All ‘A’ Classic win on Monday against Harlan.
Despite falling behind 2-0, and 3-2, Whitley County (12-8) found a way to pull off one of its best wins of the season.
“We didn’t hit the ball like I would have liked, but these girls did enough to get the job done,” Whitley County Angela Singleton said. “I would have liked our girls to make quicker adjustments in the box. We definitely have some things we need to continue to work on, but tonight was a good win for our girls. Our pitching and defense was solid today. They did a good job battling back after giving up some runs. I’m proud of them.”
Kara Canada and Caylee Singleton combined to limit the Lady Generals to seven hits and only two earned runs. Canada struck out two batters while Singleton finished with four Ks.
Jackson County’s Candice Williams tossed 6 2/3 of an inning while allowing six hits and four earned runs. Williams struck out six batters.
Hailie Huddleston led Whitley County with two hits, an RBI, and a run scored while Canada had a hit, and an RBI. Jayden Barton, and Ciara Pittman also drove in runs during the win. Morgan Huddleston finished with a hit and scored once while Singleton and Adalee Johnson finished with a hit apiece.
Ella Sallee led Jackson County with two hits and two RBI while Lexi Brockman and Blakelynn Fee finished with two hits apiece. Kylie Moore finished with a hit and an RBI.
