SOMERSET — South Laurel clicked in all three phases of its game during Friday’s 10-0 shutout win over Southwestern.
The red-hot Lady Cardinals (15-5) turned in a flawless game on defense, committing no errors while outhitting the Lady Warriors, 13-3. And of course, another impressive outing from freshman Kenzie Williams in the pitcher’s circle.
Williams picked up win No. 9 on the season while lowering her 1.69 ERA in the process by recording her second shut out of the season. She also struck out three batters, pushing her season total to 117 Ks in only 76 1/3 innings of work.
“We continue to focus on competing in all three phase of the game and got a great effort tonight by everyone,” South Laurel coach Carly Mink said. “It’s always good to get a win on the road against a good team. We are just focusing on getting better each day and I’m happy with the work the girls are putting in to do that.”
Emmie Rice had a big day at the plate, delivering her team-best sixth home run while 2-for-2 at the plate with three RBI, and one run scored. Addison Baker delivered two hits, three RBI, and scored once while Morgan Jackson and Williams had two hits and an RBI apiece. Bailey Frazier finished with a hit and scored once while Skye Lawson was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Amara Horn and Audrey Likins finished with a hit and one run scored apiece. Ryleigh Bretz also scored a run in the win.
