Lady Wildcats get some revenge during 7-1 win over Clay County

MANCHESTER — After securing the 51st District’s top seed on Thursday, a little bit of a letdown might have been expected with Nikki Hendrix’s Lynn Camp Lady Wildcats traveled to play Clay County on Monday.

But then again, Hendrix’s squad had a little bit of payback in the back of their mind after dropping an 11-0 decision to the Lady Tigers back on March 19.

Lynn Camp received a stellar pitching and hitting efforts by Allie Messer while outhitting the Lady Tigers, 9-6, to pick up a 7-1 victory.

Messer had a huge game at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a home run, a double, five RBI and one run scored. Jorja Carnes had two hits and two RBI while Messer also tossed all seven innings, scattering six hits and allowing only one earned run. She also struck out three batters.

“We came into tonight’s game wanting some revenge after they beat us 11-0 earlier in the season,” Hendrix said. “Clay County is a really good ball team and we knew it was gonna be hard to pick up the W, but they were determined to get it tonight. This win was a team effort. Some of the players were struggling at the plate, but they made up for it with their good defense.

“Jorja Carnes and Allie Messer came up with big hits when we had runners on and we were able to score,” she added. “Allie gave us a big boost when she hit a three-run homer in the top of the 6th. She also pitched a great game tonight and was able to keep their hitters off balance. The defense behind her played very well, too.”

Abby Bowling led Clay County with two hits and an RBI while Presley Griffin finished with two hits.
