WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County remains the hottest team in the 13th Region, capturing its seventh win in a row with an impressive 4-1 victory over Wayne County.
The defending state champion Colonels improved to 15-7 with the three run victory as Tyler Rose picked up the win, allowing only two hits in four innings of scoreless work. He also struck out four batters. Kip Allen earned the save, tossing three scoreless innings while allowing only three hits, and finishing with three strikeouts.
“Good to get another win,” Whitley County coach Jeremy Shope said. “Good outing by Tyler Rose and Kip Allen. Both filled up the strike zone without walking anyone. We had some really good at bats and barreled the baseball. We just left too many guys in scoring position.”
Whitley County scored a run in each of the first three innings to build a 3-0 advantage before the Cardinals got on the scoreboard with an unearned run in the fourth inning. The Colonels secured the win with an insurance run in the sixth inning.
Bryce Anderson led the way with three hits, which included a home run, one RBI, and two runs scored. EJ Allen delivered a run-scoring hit while Hunter Wilson, Rose and Ronald Osborne finished with a hit apiece. Christina Cureton finished with a hit and a run scored while Dee Parker and Matthew Wright had an RBI apiece.
