Keen, Carl shine in North Laurel’s 2-0 win over Breathitt County

LONDON — North Laurel’s Katie Keen continues to swing a red-hot bat while Emma Carl was dominant in the pitcher’s circle as the duo helped guide the Lady Jaguars (12-6) to a 2-0 win over Breathitt County on Saturday.

“Today was an old fashioned pitcher’s duel,” North Laurel coach Chris Edwards said. “Pennington from Breathitt and Emma for us were both on their game today. Emma went all seven innings, only allowed four hits and struck out seven. We also made all the plays behind her today. I’ve said this since we started here, pitching and defense will take you a long way in this game. Today is a prime example of that.

“Offensively, we struggled but that was because of Pennington,” he added. “She is one of the best pitchers around and that’s why we wanted to face her. We are going to see a bunch of good pitching if we want to have the season we want to have so games like this are good for us. We scheduled this game late in the week after we had a team cancel on us so Many thanks to Coach Taulbee for agreeing to come down and play. Good game and a good week for us. Rest up tomorrow and back at it again with some big games next week. Go Jags.”

Keen delivered a a home run while going 2-for-2, and finishing with two RBI, and a run scored while Braylee Fawbush and Bella Sizemore finished with a hit apiece. Sizemore also scored once.

Carl tossed a complete game while limiting the Lady Bobcats to four hits and finishing with seven strikeouts.
