LONDON — North Laurel fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning, but scored four answered runs to improve 10-11 overall and 2-1 against 49th District opponents with a 4-2 win over Jackson County.
Andrew Cupp excelled at the plate and on the mound in the win, going 3-for-3 with two RBI while tossing a complete game and giving up seven hits and only two earned runs. He struck out three batters.
“It was a pitcher’s duel tonight — Andrew Cupp for North and Elijah Thomas for Jackson,” North Laurel coach Darren McWhorter said. “Jackson took an early lead in top of the first but Cupp put our team on his back. He was 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and tied the game. Senior J. Douglas Gilliam was 1-for-2 with the go-ahead RBI triple.”
Gilliam’s run-scoring triple gave the Jaguars the lead for good in the fifth inning.
Cooper Elza went 2-for-3 at the plate while Carter Kelley had a hit and scored once. Cameron Smith, and Jude McWhorter had a hit apiece and Cam Hinkle scored a run.
