Morgan Hicks goes yard twice as Corbin puts an end to North Laurel’s nine-game win streak

LONDON — It’s been a rollercoaster of a season so far for Crystal Stidham’s Corbin Lady Redhounds this season, but they put the 13th Region on notice with their 11-7 win over North Laurel on Thursday.

Despite sitting at 8-14 on the season, the Lady Redhounds let it be known they’re one of the top contenders in the 13th Region.

Morgan Hicks also let it be known that she’s one of the top power hitters in the region. Her fourth and fifth home runs of the season played a huge role in Corbin putting an end to the Lady Jaguars’ (14-7) nine-game win streak.

Hicks was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two home runs, three RBI, and three runs scored.

Both teams scored two runs apiece in the first inning and a run apiece in the second inning before the Lady Redhounds’ three-run third inning gave them a 6-3 cushion. Their lead extended to 7-3 before North Laurel rallied with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning and three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning tied the game at seven apiece.

Corbin took control of the game with three runs in the sixth inning while adding an insurance run in the seventh inning.

“Tonight was a huge win for my girls,” Corbin coach Crystal Stidham said. “They needed this. We are so much better than our record. We’ve had so many ups and downs but tonight was all about them. They played full on team ball and I couldn’t be more proud of them.

“Morgan was all in tonight and on a mission,” she added. “She smoked the ball tonight and the whole team just made the right adjustments at the plate and their patience was awesome!  They got their spark back tonight and they deserve all the credit. The defense came to play tonight and got it done. Abi Beller pitched a heck of a game w her defense on a mission and Kallie came in and shut it down. Let’s Go Lady Redhounds.”
