Lady Colonels even district record at 2-2 with win over Williamsburg 

WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County’s trailed Williamsburg for four and a half innings, and then the Lady Colonels’ bats caught fire.

Angela Singleton’s squad fell behind 2-0 in the first inning before scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth while adding an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure a 5-2 victory over the Lady Yellow Jackets.

Whitley County is now 14-12 overall with a 2-2 mark against 50th District opponents while Williamsburg falls to 4-18 and 0-4 against 50th District foes.

“Any time you pick up a district win it’s a good day,” Singleton said. “Our district is tough and I’m proud of our girls getting the job done. We definitely could have started hitting sooner but sometimes things happen.”

Jadynn Johnson led Whitley County with two hits, two RBI and one run scored while Cambree Price finished with two hits and two runs scored. Hallie Huddleston and Jayden Barton delivered run-scoring hits while Kara Canada also had a hit.

Canada got the win, allowing only one hit and no earned runs in five innings of work. She struck out six batters. Caylee Singleton picked up the save, tossing two hitless and scoreless innings while fanning five batters.

Makenzie Rice had Williamsburg’s lone hit.
