LONDON — One thing that has rung true this season — when South Laurel suffers a loss, the Lady Cardinals follow with a win.
Carly Mink’s squad continued to avoid a losing skid more than one game this season by delivering Whitley County a 12-0 loss on Tuesday.
South Laurel hit on all cylinders just a day after getting beat by crosstown rival North Laurel, 12-2.
The Lady Cardinals became the first 13th Region team to win 20 games this season while capping off 50th District regular season play with a perfect 6-0 mark.
“Our players were very disappointed with last night and wanted to bounce back tonight and put a good effort together,” South Laurel coach Carly Mink said. “We just focused on what we always focus on offensively, having good at bats and getting good pitches to hit.”
Freshman Kenzie Williams dominated throughout the matchup, tossing a no-hitter while recording her 13th win. She finished with five strikeouts.
“Kenzie continues to perform at a high level and gives us a chance in every game,” Mink said.
The Lady Cardinals wasted little time taking control of the game, scoring a run in the first inning before adding six runs in the second inning, and five runs in the third inning.
Morgan Jackson delivered two hits and four RBI in the win while scoring three times. Williams was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate while driving in two runs. Addison Baker added two hits and a run scored while Amara Horn was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and two runs scored. Audrey Likins collected a hit, and two RBI while scoring twice. Emmie Rice drove in a run while Skye Lawson scored twice and Ryleigh Bretz scored once.
The loss dropped Whitley County to 14-13 overall and 2-3 against 50th District opponents.
