Tigers’ 10-run third inning proves to be too much for Williamsburg to overcome

MANCHESTER – A 10-run third inning turned to be all Clay County needed during its 16-2 win over Williamsburg.

The Tigers (15-10) scored early and often against the Yellow Jackets (2-18), who are now 1-14 during their past 15 games.

Williamsburg scored a pair of runs in the first two innings only to see Clay County rally six runs to take a 6-2 edge. The Tigers’ 10-runs in the third inning sealed the deal for Jason Smith’s squad.

Hayden Kleinert led the Yellow Jackets with a 2-for-2 effort at the plate while Henry Bowling finished with a hit, an RBI, and one run scored. Jason Flannery drove in a run while Mason Rountree finished with a hit and a run scored. Isaiah Sizemore also delivered a hit.

Jacob Jones took the loss on the mound, lasting two innings while allowing seven hits and six earned runs. He struck out two batters. Kleinert, Rountree and Bowling combined to pitch the final two innings, surrendering five hits, and 10 earned runs.

Clay County had three players deliver multiple hits with Hayden Crocket going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Aidan Roberts finished with two hits, an RBI, and a run scored while Adon Grubb was 2-for-3 with three RBI, and one run scored.

Johnathan Smith got the win, pitching four scoreless innings while striking out three batters.
