Late Rally Propels South Laurel Lady Cardinals to 5-3 Victory Over Rockcastle County

In a thrilling match against the Rockcastle County Lady Rockets, the South Laurel Lady Cardinals secured a late lead to seal a 5-3 victory. The game stood tied at three in the seventh inning until Amara Horn’s single drove in two runs.

The Cardinals initiated their scoring in the first inning when Bailey Frazier’s walk brought in a run. However, the Lady Rockets surged ahead 3-1 in the fourth inning courtesy of an error that led to two runs and a single by Dunaway.

A sacrifice fly by Addison Baker in the sixth inning helped South Laurel level the score at three.

Pitcher Kenzie Williams clinched the win for the Cardinals, pitching a full seven innings and allowing only four hits and three runs (none earned), while striking out six and walking three. Sydney Holcomb suffered the loss for the Lady Rockets after pitching three and two-thirds innings, conceding three runs (two earned) on four hits, with five strikeouts and four walks.

Horn, batting eighth for the Cardinals, was instrumental with two RBIs, going 1-for-3 at the plate. Horn, Baker, Audrey Likins, Williams, and Bretz each contributed a hit for the Cardinals. Notably, the Cardinals demonstrated discipline at the plate, drawing six walks in total, with Frazier and Skye Lawson leading the charge with two walks apiece.

For the Lady Rockets, Makyla Hester stood out in the middle of the lineup, driving in two runs on a 2-for-3 performance.

The South Laurel Lady Cardinals are scheduled for their next game against the Lexington Christian Eagles on Saturday.
