Whitley County Lady Colonels suffer an 8-5 defeat against Harlan County.

HARLAN — The Lady Colonels got on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning courtesy of a wild pitch. but couldn’t keep pace as they took the 8-5 loss.

However, Harlan County seized control of the game in the bottom of the first, tallying five runs on two hits to surge ahead 5-1. The pivotal moment came with a three-run homer to center field by Burton on an 0-2 count.

Harlan County extended their lead in the second inning with a fielder’s choice by Estep and a single by Brown.

Caylee Singleton provided solid relief pitching for Whitley County lady Colonels, tossing four and two-thirds innings and allowing only one hit and two runs (one earned), while striking out six and walking two. Kara Canada started in the circle for the Colonels, conceding six hits and six runs over one and one-third innings, with one strikeout and one walk.

Adams pitched a complete game for Harlan County, giving up six hits and five runs (one earned) while striking out 11 and walking three.

Amber Brown and Adalee Johnson led the offensive effort for Whitley County lady Colonels, each collecting two hits and driving in one run. Brown also showcased her speed with three stolen bases, contributing to the team’s six stolen bases for the game.

Burton stood out for Harlan County with three RBIs, going 2-for-3 on the day. Wilson, Burton, and Shepherd each collected two hits for Harlan County.
