WILLIAMSBURG — The Clay County Lady Tigers are peaking at the right time while Angela Singleton’s Whitley County Lady Colonels continue to struggle.
The Lady Tigers (10-14) built a 3-0 lead after breaking through a scoreless game in the fifth inning while Whitley County’s comeback fell short in the bottom of the seventh with the Lady Colonels only able to push across one run.
The game turned out to be a pitcher’s duel as Clay County’s Abby Bowling did just enough to lead her team to a two-run win.
She pitched a complete game, allowing six hit and one earned run while striking out seven batters.
Whitley County’s Caylee Singleton tossed seven innings, surrendering only five hits and two earned runs while striking out six batters.
Anna Samples’ two run homer turned out to be just what the Lady Tigers needed in the win while Hallie Huddleston led the Lady Colonels with two hits and a run scored. Jadynn Johnson drove in a run with a hit, collecting Whitley County’s lone RBI.
