Redhounds fall in extra innings to Tates Creek 

CORBIN — Corbin’s matchup against Tates Creek on Thursday could best be compared to a heavyweight title fight.

Both teams took the other’s best punch but in the end, the Commodores did just enough to pull off a 7-6 victory in eight innings.

Corbin (21-8) took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning before Tates Creek answered with three runs in the second inning to tie the game at three apiece. The Commodores added another run in the third inning to take a 4-3 edge.

Tates Creek added another run in the sixth inning, pushing its lead to 5-3 before the Redhounds tied the game at five apiece in the bottom of the seventh.

The Commodores put the game away with two runs in the top of the eighth while Corbin could only push across one run in the bottom half of the inning.

Mikey Neal connected with his seventh home run during the loss and finished with three RBI and one run scored. Kade Elam had a hit, two RBI and one run scored while Lucas Tarvin collected a hit and an RBI. Cam Estep had a hit and scored once while Jeremiah Gilbert and Clay Botner finished with a hit apiece.

Travis started the game and lasted 4 1/3 of an inning, giving up 10 hits, but only one earned run. He struck out two batters. Ethan Abner pitched the final 3 2/3 of an inning, giving up two hits and one earned run while finishing with two Ks.

The Redhounds committed two errors leading to five unearned runs.
