Trey Smith’s Cardinals picked up win No. 22 on Saturday with a 10-0 shutout win over Jackson County.
The 22 wins are the most a South Laurel team has garnered since the Cardinals’ state tournament run under former coach Wynn Harris back in 2015.
South Laurel wasted no time cruising past the Generals, scoring three runs in the second inning while adding four runs in the third inning. The Cardinals put their finishing touches on the win with three runs in the sixth inning.
Tyler Curry improved to 4-0 after tossing six innings, allowing only one hit while striking out seven batters.
Offensively, South Laurel delivered 16 hits with five players recording multiple hits, including Vince Sizemore’s three-hit effort.
Waylon Hensley and Austin Byrd finished with two hits, two RBI, and one run scored apiece while Reece Noble finished 3-for-3 with an RBI, and two runs scored. Keaton Smith delivered a 2-for-3 effort with two RBI, and two runs scored while Jack Vaughn finished with a hit and two RBI. Keaton Creech had a hit and an RBI while Hunter Bundy had a hit and scored once. Curry connected with a hit while Kamdin Dewees scored once.
