LONDON — The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Case in point — the Corbin Lady Redhounds’ dominance on the hard courts.
Corbin’s girls’ team entered the new team tournament as the No. 1 seed, and dominated the action, defeating South Laurel, Clay County and North Laurel in the championship, capturing its 15th consecutive regional crown.
“Corbin has been very successful on the state level in the team tournament in years past under coaches Curt Hart and Donnie Head, so we were very excited to see they were bringing it back this year,” Jones said. “We rotated several players into the doubles lineups in this tournament and everyone played very well including Olivia, MaryAlice, Riley, Haley and Karlee. It says a lot about the depth of your team when you can put many different combinations together in doubles and they all are successful. For this team tournament we went heavy in singles with Bella, Lindsay and Katie and they came out and absolutely dominated, with none of them dropping a single game in the semifinals or finals in singles.
“It was a very impressive effort all around and I’m super proud of this group of girls,” he added. “They work so hard and it’s great to seem them reaping the rewards for all that hard work. But there’s more work to be done now as we wait until tomorrow for the draw for the team state tournament. I’m optimistic, with a decent draw, that we can make a pretty deep run there as well.”
