WILLIAMSBURG — The defending state champion Whitley County Colonels are catching fire at the right time.
The Colonels reeled off their fifth straight win, improving to 23-9 overall, after defeating Rockcastle County, 16-0, on Monday.
After a scoreless first inning, Whitley County exploded for five runs before adding another run in the third inning. The Colonels secured the win with a 10-run fourth inning.
“It was senior night tonight as we played our last home game,” Whitley County coach Jeremy Shope said. “We got to honor our six seniors. “They are six seniors who have gotten it done on the baseball field as well as the classroom,” he added. “They had an average GPA of a 4.13. That is just phenomenal. We continued to hit the ball well tonight. Our guys are getting geared up for postseason. They have worked hard and it’s been fun watching them grow.”
Bradyn Bargo got the win on the mound, allowing only three hits while striking out a batter.
Hunter Wilson connected with his team-best fifth home run while finishing with two RBI and a run scored. EJ Allen had two hits, three RBI and two runs scored while Jason Nunley was 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Bryce Anderson had a hit and three RBI while Mathew Wright drove in two runs with a hit. Ronald Osborne finished with a hit, an RBI and two runs scored.
