Lady Yellow Jackets gain momentum with 15-12 win over Bell County

WILLIAMSBURG — Andrea Winchester’s Williamsburg Lady Yellow Jackets got a much-needed 15-12 win before postseason play begins next week by surviving a thriller with Bell County.

The Lady Yellow Jackets (6-23) trailed 2-1 after one inning of play, but scored two runs in the second inning while adding six more runs in the third inning to take what most thought would be a comfortable 9-1 lead.

The Lady Bobcats answered with a run in the fourth inning, three runs in the fifth inning, and five runs in the top of the sixth to take a short-lived 11-10 advantage.

Williamsburg countered with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure a three-run victory on Monday.

“Well it wasn’t pretty, but it was a win,” Winchester said. “We made too many errors in the field but came in and hit the ball. We fought through and pulled out the win.”

Allie Wilson had a huge game at the plate for the Lady Jackets, turning in a 3-for-4 effort while driving in four runs and scoring three times. Makenzie Rice finished with two hits, two RBI, and three runs scored while Haylee Baird delivered a hit with two RBI, and scored twice. Kendall Hamlin also drove in two runs while Kyli Monhollen got the win.

Monhollen came in relief of Wilson and pitched the final 1 1/3 of an inning, allowing two hits and one earned run. She struck out one batter.
