Lady Jaguars go extra innings with Boyle County before picking 5-4 win

DANVILLE — Saige McClure homered while Emma Carl toughed out eight innings to help lead North Laurel to a 5-4 extra inning win over Boyle County.

The two teams went back and forth until the Lady Jaguars broke through on the eighth inning to get the win.

“Tough hard fought game tonight at Boyle County,” North Laurel coach Chris Edwards said. “Coach Deem has a great program up there. We had to fight to get out of there tonight with the win. Boyle’s pitcher is really good. We had 6 hits tonight.

“A home run from Saige McClure and two hits from Braylee Fawbush, including the game-winning RBI in the top of the eighth,” he added. “We also hit several balls hard that they caught. We were a hit or two away from putting together a big inning. Credit to them for stopping that from happening.

“Emma pitched another good game,” Edwards continued. “Only five hits allowed. She and the defense also got us out of a couple of spots late in the game where the winning run was on base. Emma was a real warrior tonight on the mound. And again l, our defense made only one error tonight. Defense will help get you where you want to be in the post season. Proud of my girls tonight. We had to fight back a couple of times to tie and take the lead against a really good pitcher. I like what I seen tonight. Go Jags.”
